Attendance

THIS WEEK'S ATTENDANCE

ATTENDANCE REWARDS

If your class has 100% attendance, you earn a letter. If you earn enough letters to spell the word DISCO, you get an attendance prize for your whole class!

ATTENDANCE

Attendance and punctuality are extremely important for your child’s education and life chances. Research has proved that poor attendance and punctuality often leads to low attainment. Every minute of school that is missed will affect your child’s learning.

We would like to remind you that holidays must not be taken in term time, and non-urgent medical appointments should be made outside of school hours.

School will not authorise any holidays during term time, and we will refer any unauthorised holidays to the Educational Welfare Service, who can issue fines of £60 per week per parent per child for any holidays taken when children should be in school.

Our attendance is currently below the government’s target of 97%, and we will be challenging and supporting families where poor attendance and poor punctuality are a concern. Thank you for your support.

EVERY MINUTE COUNTS

Being in school on-time every day is essential. Lessons start at 8:45am, and your child should arrive at school no later than 8:45am. The school gate opens at 8:35am.

Please note that being late has a massive impact on your child's education as well as their emotional wellbeing. We have noticed that children who regularly arrive late may not form strong friendship bonds and are often anxious about having to walk into the classroom after lessons have started. This is not a positive start to the day for them and can be very upsetting.

ATTENDANCE CHALLENGE

We monitor the attendance of all our children, and we will act quickly to support any families where we see attendance starting to decline. One way we do this is with our Attendance Challenge. If your child's attendance falls below 90%, they are classed as a persistent absentee. We run half-termly attendance challenges to encourage children whose attendance has dropped below 90% to join us for a special breakfast every day for three weeks. Children who take part in the Attendance Challenge will receive a prize if they are in school on time for 15 days in-a-row!

LIVERPOOL ATTENDANCE CHARTER

At St Silas CE Primary School, we actively support the Liverpool Attendance Charter.
